Up & Coming (Brittany Griner)

Griner attended Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas. In addition to basketball, as a freshman she also played varsity volleyball.




Due to the rarity of girls dunking during play, an amateur video of Griner's windmill 360 dunk during a high school game on January 24, 2007, that was subsequently posted on YouTube, quickly became a YouTube sensation and received national and international attention.



During her senior year, Griner led the Cougars of Nimitz High School to the Texas 5A girls basketball state championship game, where they lost 52-43 to Mansfield Summit High School. On March 3, 2010, Griner was ejected from a game for punching Texas Tech player Jordan Barncastle in the face after a tie-up. The punch thrown by Griner broke Barncastle's nose. A foul was called against Barncastle, while Griner was suspended for a total of two games (meaning Lady Bears coach Kim Mulkey imposed a one-game suspension in addition to the one-game suspension mandated by NCAA rules...                       http://www.brittney-griner.com/
